SAFA: How to exploit the potential of waste?
SAFA is a structure created in 2016, specializing in waste recovery and recycling.
Ndeye Fatou Ndiaye who heads SAFA is an environmentalist who works in the agro-industry sector. After years of research, she became aware of the potential of waste that can be recycled, including the sludge produced by ONAS and tobacco dust, the mixture of which can be used as both bio-pesticide and bio-fertilizer.
SAFA has the confidence of an association of more than 2000 market gardeners who would like to experiment this new technique for their activities in the Niayes area, precisely in Sangalkam. Indeed, it has been proven that sludge reduces the production cycle and thus allows for several harvests per year.
To this end, an area of 200 m2 has been allocated to SAFA to experiment with the bio-fertilizer that would also serve as a natural insecticide that cleans the soil. Initially, SAFA would like to market this product to producers and market gardeners in the Niayes area and then open it up to a wider clientele.
